2nd Grade News March 25-29, 2024
Dear Parents,
I hope you all have a blessed Easter! Here are some of the activities we did this week:
What We Did:
-
Language Arts
-
Presented our Book Talks! They all did a great job speaking in front of the class!
-
Read The Tale of Peter Rabbit and wrote what Peter was feeling while he was in the wheelbarrow.
-
Read a story called Rechenka’s Eggs and wrote about our favorite part.
-
-
Math
-
Continued our chapter on data and graphing. When we return from Easter break we’ll finish this chapter and start a new chapter on money and time. It can be very tricky for some kids to count money, so I encourage you to grab a handful of coins and have them practice at home! Any extra opportunities they have to practice their skills will just build confidence and competence!
-
Be sure to keep working on math facts every night! We’ll study the -6 facts again after the break.
-
-
Religion
-
Finished our chapter about the prayers that make up the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
-
Learned about the Triduum with a special story called “Benjamin’s Box” that tells the passion story from a child’s point of view.
-
Made our own “tomb” with the angel inside delivering the good news!
-
Attended the Live Stations of the Cross this morning
-
-
We continued learning new uppercase letters! This week we learned H, K, and U. Please allow them to ONLY practice the letters we have learned. For the next few weeks we will continue to practice our spelling words in cursive, and I will have them write them in print and cursive on the test. In May we will switch to only cursive on the test.
-
Did a fun STEM activity and built a nest for a peep! The rule was that it had to be 10 cubes high and hold the peep off of the ground. Our only materials were cubes, 1 small cup, toothpicks, and peeps!
Looking Ahead:
-
Reading--We will start our last unit and read a story about the life of a dollar bill
-
Math--We’ll start a new chapter on money and time.
